Hello, my name is Ary-Ane Dupras and I've been studying in the program of Physical Rehabilitation for two years now. For those of you who doesn't know about physical rehabilitation, I'll explain what it involves. We have courses in anatomy which teaches us how to heal people and to know what structures of the human body is included in the pain of the patient. We also learn some tricks to help us communicate properly with the patient which is very important to base trust between us and them.
Nobody wants to be among patients who speak another language without knowing the basics, right?
I'm at the beginning of my career, but I already did an internship in the past and I know what the job looks like.
I already have experience because I have already been in the patient's shoes. I think that I can figure out more easily what kind of pain he or she can feel and how to deal with it.
My goal is to find an alternative, a solution so that we can understand each other well despite the different languages. It is important for the patient to fully understand what is explained to him about his diagnostic and his treatments.

During the internships, we can be sent to cities where they only speak English. So, we have to know how to explain correctly what the patient need to hear. We don't have a choice but to learn some tricks to be understood.
If we are not able to speak English, the patient can understand the wrong things about his treatment and his diagnostic. And if it is not done correctly, it may make the injury worse, it's not what we want to happen.
Imagine that the patient didn't understand the right diagnostic and the right treatment to do because you express yourself the wrong way. For example, the patient need to rest his knee, but instead of that, he understands that he need to make it move the more possible. The pain would be much worse, and he risks causing more trouble and it will also take much longer to recover.
I've found the best solution to deal with those kinds of problems, I've made myself a glossary which helps to quickly find the words we want to say and the things we want to explain. I'll demonstrate how to look at mine and where you can make one in the next few minutes.
To begin, you have to open your browser and type this URL into the address bar. You are now supposed to see this page, if not, you probably typed the wrong URL.
In the top right corner of the screen, there's the button to log out of the Virtual Writing Tutor. On the same level of the screen, but in the middle of it, there's the writing tools button where you can click to have access to the glossary and other kinds of tools. There's also a text area in the middle of the screen and by the right, there is the scroll bar which can lead us at the bottom of the website.
Now, I will show you where to go to find the solution to the specific problem I have mentioned before. You have to click on Writing tools which is situated in the top the middle of the screen. You will, now, see a button where it is written Glossary creator and you have to click on it to have access to the glossary that I've made for my field of study.
So, if you need to tell a patient his treatment and that you don't want him to misunderstand you, that's how you can solve this problem. I promise that it would help you to figure out how to explain yourself correctly with the right words.
