Desmos

Introduction

Hi my name is Rayan, and today I want to talk to you about how I use Desmos in my Natural Science program. If you’re not familiar with it, Desmos is an online graphing calculator and trust me, it’s more powerful than you think.

I know many students struggle with math. I used to be one of them.

At first, I wasn’t really good at graphing equations but with Desmos, I improved a lot.

I’ve used Desmos all semester and my grades in math went up.

I want to show you how Desmos can make your life easier in science classes.

I really encourage you to try it out after watching this video.

You’ll be surprised by what Desmos can actually do.

The Problem

In cegep, we often have to solve complex equations or graph functions in math and science.

Without a good tool, we can get confused, make mistakes, and lose marks.

I had trouble understanding how to get the primitive of a function f(x) but with Desmos' very intuitive math keyboard, the steps are easy and you can even see your function evolve over time.

But don’t worry I’ll show you how I fixed that with Desmos.

The Quest

First, open your browser and type ‘Desmos Graphing Calculator’ in the search bar. Click on the first link. It will take you directly to the Desmos homepage

on the menu of desmos you will see 6 little square that represent 6 different math tools, we are only going to see the first 2. If you click on the first one, you will see a graphing area. On the left you can enter any mathematical function you want to help you with your homework

The Solution

You just need to write your function with the keyboard provided at the bottom left. The function will appear on the right side of the screen. You just have to do your steps one by one and see your function change until you get the primitive. It's very intuitive

The Conclusion

So today, I showed you how Desmos can really help you understand math better, especially in Natural Science

Now it’s your turn. Go try Desmos for yourself and see how it can change the way you learn!
