ailerons
noun
A hinged surface in the trailing edge of an airplane wing, used to control lateral balance.
Example: We had to move the fins to the right to make the turn.

apron
noun
The designated, often paved, area where aircraft are parked, unloaded, loaded, refueled, boarded, or maintained.
Example: We will embark soon because our plane moved from the apron.

autopilot
noun
A system used to control the path of an aircraft, marine craft or spacecraft without requiring constant manual control by a human operator.
Example: I put on autopilot to italy.

black box
noun
A flight recorder in an aircraft.
Example: The aircraft's black box and voice recorder were found by rescue workers.

cabin
noun
The enclosed, pressurized section of an airplane where passengers and crew are accommodated during flight.
Example: You can go to the cabin to talk to flight attendants.

cockpit
noun
A compartment for the pilot, and sometimes also the crew, in an aircraft or spacecraft.
Example: Been due to the smell of smoke that arose in the COCKPIT On the previous 737-300 aircraft, it was engineering.

control tower
noun
A tall building at an airport from which the movements of air and runway traffic are controlled.
Example: The air plane is waiting for the control tower's signal to land.

epaulettes
noun
Denote rank, responsibility, and level of experience, commonly worn by civil airline pilots.
Example: You can see this pilot has experience by the stripes on his epaulettes.

fuselage
noun
The main body of an aircraft.
Example: The length of an aircraft's fuselage depends on it's model.

hangar
noun
A large building with an extensive floor area, typically for housing aircraft.
Example: Jets are more often stored in the hangar than commercial planes.

jetbridge
noun
An enclosed, movable connector that extends from an airport terminal gate directly to an airplane.
Example: We will go through the jetbridge before getting on the plane.

panel
noun
Used for monitoring systems, displaying flight data, and improving cockpit durability.
Example: You can see the temperature on the panel.

radar
noun
A system for detecting the presence, direction, distance, and speed of aircraft.
Example: We can see other planes in the air around us on the radar.

rudder
noun
A vertical airfoil pivoted from the horizontal stabilizer of an aircraft, for controlling movement around the vertical axis.
Example: We can move right to left because of the rudder.

noun
A leveled strip of smooth ground along which aircraft take off and land.
Example: A plane always has to land on a runway.

tailfin
noun
The fixed vertical structure at the rear of an aircraft's fuselage that provides directional stability (yaw control) during flight.
Example: The stability of our flight is provided mainly by the tailfin at the end of the aircraft.

tarmac
noun
The paved operational areas of an airport, including runways, taxiways, and the apron (ramp) where aircraft park, load, and unload.
Example: After landing the plane we have to move it to the tarmac.

transponder
noun
A device for receiving a radio signal and automatically transmitting a different signal.
Example: The transponder helps us communicate with people on the ground.

windsock
noun
A light, flexible cylinder or cone mounted on a mast to show the direction and strength of the wind, especially at an airfield.
Example: We just need to watch the windsock to see if landing here is safe.

yoke
noun
A primary cockpit flight control device, similar to a steering wheel, used to manage an aircraft's pitch and roll.
Example: Pilots use the yoke to guide smaller planes directions.
