I study in criminology and my glossary helps either young people or adults that are in the correctional system, rehabilitate them to society and provide support, so they don't do crime anymore and get on the right path in life.
addiction
noun
The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.
Example: He committed the theft to finance his drug addiction.

bullying
verb
Seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce (someone perceived as vulnerable).
Example: Her 11- year-old son has been constantly bullied at school

noun
A correctional officer is responsible for maintaining security and order within correctional facilities such as prisons, jails, and detention centers.
Example: This correctional officer is looking for drugs in cells.

counseling

The provision of assistance and guidance in resolving personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties, especially by a professional.
Example: I'm offering counseling sessions after 2pm.

The Criminal Code is a federal law that includes definitions of most of the criminal offences that the Parliament of Canada has enacted.
Example: You can find max sentences in the criminal code.

delinquency
noun
Conduct that is out of accord with accepted behavior or the law.
Example: A child that during adolescence exhibits delinquent behaviour.

detention
noun
The action of detaining someone or the state of being detained in official custody, especially as a political prisoner.
Example: He's being detained for burglary.

empathy
noun
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Example: He has a total lack of empathy for anybody.

noun
A blueprint for helping a student build specific skills or reach a goal.
Example: We're working on an intervention plan for Thomas.

marginality
noun
The state or condition of being isolated from and not fully accepted by the dominant society or culture, and therefore frequently disadvantaged.
Example: The program helps people from marginalized groups.

offender

A person who commits an illegal act.
Example: She is a persistent offender and has been arrested five times this year for shoplifting.

A prison for people convicted of serious crimes.
Example: He's confined in a penitentiary for the next 4years.

probation
noun
The release of an offender from detention, subject to a period of good behavior under supervision.
Example: This guy is getting is on probation for stealing money.

probation officer
noun
A person appointed to supervise offenders who are on probation.
Example: Flores was on probation at the time of the shooting, but his probation officer hadn't seen him in person in more than six months.

rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is the process of re-educating those who have committed a crime and preparing them to re-enter society.
Example: We are working with these ex offenders to rehabilitate them to society.

The state of being free from danger or threat.
Example: The system is designed to provide maximum security against toxic spills.

sentence
noun
The punishment assigned to a defendant found guilty by a court, or fixed by law for a particular offense.
Example: He's been sentenced to two years in a prison.

therapy

Treatment intended to relieve or heal a disorder.
Example: She's going in therapy to heal some disorders and receive professional help.

noun
A person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action.
Example: Victims of domestic violence.

A place or organization providing leisure activities for young people.
Example: He goes to a youth center to do activities with other or his age.
