Basket
noun
An open net suspended from a metal rim attached to the backboard and through which the ball must pass in order for a player to score point
Example: And it is his 10th basket of the night.

Commissioner's Trophy
noun
The Commissioner's Trophy is a trophy presented each year by the Commissioner of Baseball to the MLB team that wins the World Series. The recent trophy design contains flags representing each team in North America's top two leagues, the National League and the American League.
Example: The winning team will now receive the Commissioner's Trophy.

Double dribble
noun
An infraction, resulting in loss of possession of the ball, occurring either when a player uses both hands simultaneously when dribbling or when a player interrupts a dribble by holding the ball momentarily in one or both hands
Example: The referee calls a double dribble

face-off
noun
The act of facing the puck, as at the start of a game or period
Example: The face-off will be on the home teams defensive zone.

Foul
noun
(in sports) an unfair or invalid stroke or piece of play, especially one involving interference with an opponent
Example: The number 5 get his fifth foul of the game.

Free throw
noun
An unimpeded attempt at a basket (worth one point) awarded to a player following a foul or other infringement.
Example: LeBron his fouled, he's gonna have two free throws.

Goal
noun
The act of throwing, carrying, kicking, driving, etc., a ball or puck into such an area or object.
Example: What a goal!

Icing
noun
Ice Hockey. the act of a player shooting the puck from the defensive half of the rink over the opponent's goal line, but not into the goal, as a defensive maneuver to keep the puck out of the reach of attacking opponents, resulting in a penalty against the defensive team if the puck is then next touched by an opponent other than the goalkeeper
Example: The puck is thrown all the way in the other zone, and It's an icing.

Infield
noun
The inner part of the field of play in various sports.
Example: This infield player is the best in the league

Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy

The Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy is the championship trophy awarded annually by the National Basketball Association to the winner of the NBA Finals. The name of the trophy was the Walter A. Brown Trophy until 1984.

Outfield

In baseball, defines the grassy area beyond the infield.
Example: This ball is hit far in the outfield!

Plate
noun
baseball a flat often five-sided piece of hard rubber or other material that defines the area over which the pitcher must throw the ball for a strike and that a base runner must safely reach on his way from third base to score a run.
Example: The pitch was right in the middle of the plate.

Puck
noun
a black disk made of hard rubber, the focus of play in ice hockey.
Example: Price makes another save by blocking that puck.

Stanley Cup
noun
The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League playoff winner.
Example: This year, the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup.

Strike
noun
A pitch that is counted against the batter, in particular one that the batter swings at and misses, or that passes through the strike zone without the batter swinging, or that the batter hits foul (unless two strikes have already been called). A batter accumulating three strikes is out.
