I am Willy Toussaint, a student of second year in Diagnostic Imaging Technology at Ahuntsic College. My glossary will be for helping individuals include me who struggle to find and understand English vocabularies that are used in our field of work. It will be consisting of 20 terms which are mostly used. For every term, definition, synonyms, how to pronounce, translation, example and image will be provided to ensure easy and well-understanding of them.
Ablation
noun
The use of heat, cold or chemicals to destroy tissues, tumors or blood vessels.
Example: Ablation was performed by a doctor in surgery room.

Anaphylaxis
noun
A serious, potentially fatal allergic reaction and medical emergency that is rapid in the onset and requires immediate medical attention regardless of use of emergency medication on site.
Example: A woman presented anaphylaxis before being taken to hospital.

Anatomical landmark

An anatomical landmark is a biologically-meaningful point in an organism. Usually experts define anatomical points to ensure their correspondences within the same species.
Example: Anatomical landmark in shape of a skull are the eye corner, nose tip, jaw, etc.

Biopsy

The removal and examination of a sample of tissue from a living body for diagnostic purposes.
Example: A bone marrow biopsy

A membranous sac for temporary retention of urine.
Example: Patients were asked to empty their bladders before going to bed.

An injury appearing as an area of discolored skin on the body, caused by a blow or impact rupturing underlying blood vessels.

Computed Tomography
noun
A method of examining body organs by scanning them with X-rays and using a computer to construct a series of cross-sectional scans along a single axis.
Example: With computed tomography examination, they were able to determine my disease.

The ability to see different luminances or colours in a static image.
Example: Images which were provided have low contrast of resolution.

Fluoroscopy

An x-ray video intervention view in real time to help guide minimally invasive procedures. This procedure often uses contrast agents to provide better images.

A medicine or agent for relieving constipation.

Lead apron
noun
Refers to the use of lead as a form of radiation protection to shield people or objects from radiation so as reducing the effective dose.
Example: A medical imaging technician is putting on a lead apron.

An important organ in the body, located under the ribs in the right upper part of the abdomen.
Example: Liver cancer is getting more popular these days.

Medulla
noun
The inner region of an organ or tissue, especially when it is distinguishable from the outer region or cortex (as in a kidney, an adrenal gland, or hair).

Orderly
noun
An attendant in a hospital responsible for the non medical care of patients and the maintenance of order and cleanliness.
Example: An orderly is preparing a room before they bring a patient in.

Pacemaker
noun
A small device used to treat arrhythmia. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm. Pacemakers send electrical pulses to help your heart beat at a normal rate and rhythm.

Radiologist
noun
Radiologists are medical doctors that specialize in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging (radiology) procedures (exams/tests) such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound.
Example: Radiologist is analyzing images of a patient.

Saturation
noun
The depth or intensity of colour present in an image.
Example: That image is more saturated.

Ultrasound (US)

A medical imaging technology that uses sound waves to create images of organs and structures inside the body.
Example: Examination of ultrasound was used to check developing baby's health.
