Here´s a glossary that contains all the basic concepts you should know if you want to become a music producer.
Acoustic treatment

The process of reducing acoustic inaccuracies and reflections in physical spaces by introducing dampening materials, such as foam and bass traps etc., in key areas.

Acoustics
noun
Acoustics are the characteristics, dimensions or properties of every space that resolve how sounds are diffused in it
Example: The studio we went had really bad acoustics

Amplitude
noun
Refers to the loudness or height of a waveform – higher means louder, lower means quieter. An amplitude of 0 (or -∞dB) means silence.
Example: Bass guitar has a larger amplitude than a violin

Analog
noun
Audio that occurs in physical space as opposed to bits in the digital space. Analogue signals and technology are continuous and infinitely measurable, whereas digital signals are limited to the defined sample rate and bit depth. Thus, analogue is commonly referred to as having a warmer, more realistic sound.
Example: Analog sounds are better if you want your music to feel more organic

Audio

Is the transmition or the reproduction of sounds.
Example: Check is the audio is clean before exporting the song

Audio interface
noun
A device that lets musicians record their music and songs on the computer and play them back.
Example: i just bought the Scarlet interface with two inputs

Beat
noun
Beat, in music, the basic rhythmic unit of a measure, or bar, not to be confused with rhythm as such; nor is the beat necessarily identical with the underlying pulse of a given piece of music, which may extend over more than a single beat.
Example: This song has a very fast beat

BPM
noun
Tempo is typically indicated with an instruction at the start of a piece (often using conventional Italian terms) and is usually measured in beats per minute (or bpm).
Example: I think you should low down the BPM because it feels to fast

DAW
noun
A digital audio workstation (DAW) is an electronic device or application software used for recording, editing and producing audio files.
Example: I think Ableton is my favourite DAW

Digital
noun
Audio that exists in the digital realm as bits and bytes, as opposed to continuous analogue signals.
Example: I´ve been making my own digital sonds

Eight note
noun
A note having the time value of an eighth of a whole note or half a quarter note, represented by a large dot with a hooked stem.
Example: Reggae music uses a lot of eight notes in offbeat

Frequency
noun
A tone measured in hertz that is reproduced by a speaker or audio source.
Example: High frequencies can affect your hearing

Half note
noun
A note having the time value of two quarter notes or half of a whole note, represented by a ring with a stem.
Example: You only need to play half notes

Harmony
noun
The combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords and chord progressions having a pleasing effect.
Example: I love the harmony of this song

Master
noun
The channel which all other channels in a track pass through. Usually, the channel where a mastering chain is applied to master the track. Also can mean a mastered copy of a track.
Example: Level down the master channel just a little bit

Melody
noun
A sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying.
Example: he picked out an intricate melody on his guitar

MIDI
noun
Is a technical standard that describes a communications protocol, digital interface, and electrical connectors that connect a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers, and related audio devices for playing, editing and recording music.
Example: How many MIDI channels did you use?

Monitors
noun
They are loudspeakers in speaker enclosures specifically designed for professional audio production applications, such as recording studios, filmmaking, television studios, radio studios and project or home studios, where accurate audio reproduction is crucial.

Mono audio
noun
Monophonic sound reproduction (often shortened to mono) is sound intended to be heard as if it were emanating from one position.
Example: We wanted to record in stereo but the lack of microphones didn't allowed us

Music Notation
noun
Is any system used to visually represent aurally perceived music played with instruments or sung by the human voice through the use of written, printed, or otherwise-produced symbols, including notation for durations of absence of sound such as rests.
Example: I´m learning how to read music notation.

Notes
noun
In music, a note is a symbol denoting a musical sound. Notes can represent the pitch and duration of a sound in musical notation. A note can also represent a pitch class.
Example: Do you know the notes of the song?

Panning
noun
It is the distribution of a sound signal (either monaural or stereophonic pairs) into a new stereo or multi-channel sound field determined by a pan control setting.
Example: You should pan one guitar to the left and the other to the right

Pentagram
noun
Notes are positioned inside a staff (also called pentagram, from penta = five, gram = line) which is a stack of five lines and four spaces. The lower lines represent lower pitches, the higher lines higher pitches.
Example: I like to write my music first in a pentagram.

Quarter note
noun
A note having the time value of a quarter of a whole note or half a half note, represented by a large solid dot with a plain stem.
Example: Follow the beat using quarter notes.

Rhythm

The systematic arrangement of musical sounds, principally according to duration and periodic stress.
Example: Guitar melodies with deep African rhythms

Sixteenth note

Is a note played for half the duration of an eighth note.
Example: Let´s use sixteenth notes to make it feel faster

Stereo audio
noun
Is a method of sound reproduction that recreates a multi-directional, 3-dimensional audible perspective.
Example: Put on the headphones so we can check the stereo modulation

Is the speed or pace of a given piece.

Whole note
noun
A note having the time value of two half notes or four quarter notes, represented by a ring with no stem. It is the longest note now in common use.
