15 Commerce terms

I have been studying in the commerce field for 2 years now and this blog will be helpful for new commerce students.

Accounting

noun

The action or process of keeping financial accounts.

Example: "an investigation into suspected false accounting"

Bank

noun

A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits from the public and creates a demand deposit while simultaneously making loans. Lending activities can be directly performed by the bank or indirectly through capital markets.

Example: "I could rob a bank with no guns".

Budget

noun

An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time.

Example: "keep within the household budget"

Calculator

noun

Something used for making mathematical calculations, in particular, a small electronic device with a keyboard and a visual display.

Example: "I need my calculator and my pencil"

Capital

noun

Wealth in the form of money or other assets owned by a person or organization or available or contributed for a particular purpose such as starting a company or investing.

Example: "rates of return on invested capital were high"

Computer

noun

An electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.

Example: "modern computers have a lot of programs".

Export

noun

An export in international trade is a good or service produced in one country that is sold into another country. The seller of such goods and services is an exporter; the foreign buyer is an importer. Exportation of goods often requires the involvement of customers authorities

Example: "i export gold from India"

Import

noun

Bring (goods or services) into a country from abroad for sale.

Example: "Japan's reluctance to import more cars"

Marketing

noun

The action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.

Example: "the Western arts of marketing and distribution"

Merchant

noun

A person or company involved in wholesale trade, especially one dealing with foreign countries or supplying merchandise to a particular trade.

Example: "a tea merchant"

Portfolio

noun

A range of investments held by a person or organization.

Example: "my portfolio is diversified"

Profit

noun

A financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something.

Example: "we should make 40% more profit this month"

Savings account

noun

A bank account that earns interest.

Example: "this could raise concern because this same percentage could be obtained in a savings account"

Stocks

noun

A share that entitles the holder to a fixed dividend, whose payment takes priority over that of common-stock dividends.

Example: "buy stocks that work for you"

Trade

noun

The action of buying and selling goods and services.

Example: "a move to ban all trade in ivory"
