This glossary is for my English class to learn new words about my program and to share with people some of my knowledge.

Acrocyanosis
Noun
Acrocyanosis means bluish discoloration of the extremities due to decreased amount of oxygen delivered to the peripheral part.
Example: When the paramedic looked at the patient's hand, he saw some acrocyanosis.

Cardiac monitor
Noun
The cardiac monitor is a device that shows the heart's electrical activity as a wave pattern on a monitor.
Example: The heart beat was shown on the cardiac monitor.

Dissecting aortic aneurysm
Phrase
An aneurysm in which the wall of an artery rips (dissects) longitudinally.
Example: My patient had a dissecting aortic aneurysm since this morning.

The explanation for the dissecting aortic aneurysm.
Epistaxis
Noun
Bleeding from the nose.
Example: Some complain of nasal stuffiness, epistaxis, and headaches.

Heatstroke
Noun
Heatstroke is a condition caused by your body overheating, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in high temperatures.
Example: If not treated promptly, heat exhaustion may evolve into heatstroke, a deadly form of heat illness.

Intradermal
Adjective
A shallow or superficial injection of a substance into the dermis, which is located between the epidermis and the hypodermis.
Example: Intravenous and intradermal opioid injections also may induce itching.

Noun
Palpation is the process of using one's hands to check the body, especially while perceiving/diagnosing a disease or illness.
Example: The abdomen was soft with mild right upper quadrant tenderness on deep palpation.

Seizure
Noun
A seizure is a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain. It can cause changes in your behavior, movements or feelings, and in levels of consciousness.
Example: The patient had seizures over the past few hours.

Stretcher
Noun
A framework of two poles with a long piece of canvas slung between them, used for carrying sick, injured, or dead people.
Example: The paramedic put the patient on the stretcher to get into the ambulance.

Tourniquet
Noun
A tourniquet is a device that is used to apply pressure to a limb or extremity in order to limit – but not stop – the flow of blood.
Example: The paramedic had to use the tourniquet to help the patient's wound.

Wheezing
Noun
Breathing with a whistling or rattling sound in the chest.
Example: Before the paramedic approached the patient, he heard wheezing.
