How can I improve my pronunciation?

Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Amélie, and I am doing my basic courses to go in Digital Imaging at Ahuntsic College. It's a field where you explain the examination to the patient, position them as required by the exam, and even more while respecting safety standards.

Nobody wants to stutter in front of their patients because they don't know how to pronounce a word, am I right? I certainly don't, and if you are like me, you don't want that either.

I have been studying English since I was 5 years old, and I am far from being bilingual, although I'm a lot better than I was when I started.

I went up a level in English because I improved.

My goal is to show you how to use Virtual Writing Tutor to improve your pronunciation of field-related terms in Digital Imaging.

This video will be useful for your whole life and will only take you a few minutes to listen.

It's impressive what you can do with this website, and I’m going to show you.

The Problem

During the semester, there is not enough time to memorize the pronunciation of all the words in Digital Imaging and that lack of practice at school can follow you into your career with your patients.

If you don't know how to pronounce certain words in your field, it will make a bad impression and a lack of professionalism with your patient and even with your colleagues.

Imagine you are with a patient in the examination room, and you need to explain the procedure for a hip's X-ray, but you don't know how to pronounce the word "arthogram". It's an essential word in this field because it's an X-ray of the inside of a joint, so you will often use this word. You search for the pronunciation of that word and stutter in front of the patient, so it gives a bad impression, and the patient might not feel safe when you perform the exam.

That can be difficult, but don't worry. I have the perfect solution for you! In the next few minutes, I will show you exactly how to solve this problem!

The Quest

First, open your browser. Type this URL with you keyboard into the address bar and hit enter. If you type the URL correctly, you will see the Virtual Writing Tutor's page.

In the top left of the screen, you can see the logo, and at the top of the screen in the middle, the navigation menu. In the navigation menu, there's the writing tools you can use for a hypertext narrative creator, a glossary creator, a job interview script creator and even more. In the middle of the screen, there’s the text area where you can type your text or just use the microphone. After writing your text, Virtual Writing Tutor offers you to check your grammar, your vocabulary, the spelling, the cohesion and even more. In the top right corner of the screen, we have the setting menu where it explains in detail what is Virtual Writing Tutor. You can also just scroll down to see all of the explanations. Additionally, in the top right corner of the screen, there’s the icon to share Virtual Writing Tutor on social media.

The Solution

Now, here is what you want to do to find the solution to the specific problem I mentioned before. First, you type the word or the text you want to know the pronunciation of in the text area, you hit the text-to-speech icon, and you'll hear the pronunciation of the word.

The Conclusion

So, if you are in the Digital Imaging program or any other program, that's how you can check the pronunciation of a word.
