Hello, friends. I have got a great video for you today. If you don't already know, my name is Rose. I've been studying Prehospital Emergency Care at Ahuntsic College for two years. In this program you learn to be a paramedic which is someone who takes care of a patient from the scene of the accident to the hospital.
Everybody needs a proofreader from time to time. It is so easy to miss mistakes in your own writing, don't you think?
I'm not the best when it comes to the English language, but I'm a lot better than I was when I started.
I got a 100% on one of my exam.
My goal is to demonstrate how to use the online grammar checker called virtual writing tutor.
Get ready to follow my step-by-step tutorial.
It is astonishing what you can do with the website I’m going to show you.
After each interaction with a patient, a paramedic needs to fill up a prehospital intervention report. That may be a challenge because there are a lot of complicated words related to that field of study.
If you can't explain your patient's condition well, you will lose credibility.
Imagine that you make a mistake in the spelling of a medical term in that report.
When that happens, I know just what to do, which I am going to show you now.
First, open your browser. Type this URL into the address bar and hit enter. If you typed the URL correctly, you will see this page.
In the top right corner of the screen there are some icons of different social media if you want to share the website with any of them. In the top left corner of the screen there is a logo. Just under that logo there is the navigation menu if you want to learn more about the website. Under it there are the instructions that tell you how to use the website. In the middle of the screen there is the text area where you write the text you want the grammar to be checked. At the bottom of that area, there are the microphone and the speech buttons. They can come handy when you either want to test your pronunciation or hear the correct way to pronounce a word.
To resolve the problem I mentioned, the spelling checker is the most useful tool of this website. You can write a sentence you want to put in your prehospital intervention report and which you are not sure of the spelling. For example, you can write, "The patient was suffering from chest pain when we arrived." The Virtual Writing Tutor now shows you that there is a spelling mistake by underlining it in red. Now just click on the check grammar button to see suggestions on how to write it correctly. It will tell you how many words you have, how many errors you have, and it will calculate the error density. In this case since I had no grammar mistakes, but a spelling error, it tells me that there is a possible spelling mistake.
Also, this website can be useful if you are not sure how to pronounce a word. To check how to pronounce a word, you just need to type it in the text area and click on the speech button. It will tell you the right way to pronounce the word you typed. (anaphylaxis) So now I know how to pronounce this complex word and how to write any words related to Prehospital Emergency Care.
So, if you are in Prehospital Emergency Care like me or in a related field, that’s how you solve the problem of a spelling mistake.
I hope it was useful and remember to use it in the future. Have a great day and thank you for watching my screencast!
