Hi, my name is Elsa, I am a Springboard to a DCS student. Next autumn I will study in Dietetics at Limoilou College for 3 years. I would like to chase at University in Nutrition. This glossary contains terms and words people can use in this profession. My glossary can help people to understand the meaning of words using by these professionals.

amino acids

Amino acids are molecules that combine to form proteins. Amino acids and proteins are the building blocks of life.
Example: The cycle links with many other metabolic pathways, such as glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, the urea cycle and the degradation of amino acids.

The evaluation or estimation of the nature, quality, or ability of someone or something.
Example: He made a rapid assessment of the situation.

A calorie is a unit of energy.
Example: Three quarters of households own cars and with this number increasing, fewer people are choosing to walk or cycle, therefore less and less calories are being used up.

Example: The students gain too much energy from protein, and not enough from carbohydrates. They should increase a number of carbohydrates in their diet from healthy sources.

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that's found in all the cells in your body. Your body needs some cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods. Your body makes all the cholesterol it needs.
Example: As we mentioned above, Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and gall bladder disease are those terms which are also data implicating obesity as a factor in the certain cancers development.

Example: Junk food is food with mineral nutritional value, which is characterized by high levels of fat, particularly saturated fats and refined sugar.
